June 2023

HIS UNSHAKEN LOVE
June begins summertime for most people. The kids are out of school and vacations begin. It is also the beginning of the hot weather time of the year. Air conditioners earn their keep and BBQs get cleaned up and put back into service. June also reminds me that the year is nearly half over. Praise to our God that Covid is now behind us but there are still a lot of pieces to be picked up in the aftermath of that great upheaval of our nation. Many lives, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually are still disheveled and trying to put things back together. Graduations, weddings, Father’s Day—these will still go on. Thankfully, they will suffer little disruption now. All of this causes me to give thanks for God’s provision in my life and in the life of our church family. I am grateful to God that he has caused not only the sun but the Son to shine upon us. Jeremiah’s words in Lamentations comes back to me:
I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall.
I well remember them, and my soul was downcast within me.
Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope:
Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed,
for his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is His faithfulness.
I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”
Lamentations 3:20-24
Enjoy the summer; endure the heat; fire up the BBQ; and give thanks for life. But above all, know that He is God and that “He will never leave you or forsake you” (Heb 13:5). Even more know, “Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet His unfailing love for us will not be shaken” (Isa 54:10).
