From the Second Chair
An ancient African proverb goes something like this, “If you want to go fast, travel alone; if you want to go far, travel together.”
“One another.” I cannot tell you the number of times the Bible uses the phrase, “One Another.” The fellowship we have with the members of Lincoln Community Church is something special and unique.
There is no place in the Bible that we are called to walk alone. LCC interacts and fellowships in each other’s lives in a positive, meaningful way, and we do that here very well, don’t we?
I think that the reason a bar is so successful is not the fact they sell alcohol, have pool tables, and dart boards; it is because God has put in the heart of every man and woman to know and to be known; to love and want to be loved.
The treasure we have at our church is the special fellowship that we have with one another. We do not dress alike. We come from different places. We are a unique group of people. But we have one thing in common, we share Jesus Christ.
We have a partnership; we share an investment together. When it comes right down to it, Jesus knows how important, “one another” is to a Christian church.
It has been true in my life that when I have traveled through dark times, when I was isolated, when I was alone, I was in bad company. But it is the idea of “one another” we have at Lincoln Community Church that is so important
We might be surprised at the number of times we read the phrase, “one another” in the New Testament.
I John 1:7 – FELLOWSHIP with one another.
Romans 15:7 – ACCEPTING one another.
Ephesians 4:2 – BEARING with one another.
I Thessalonians 4:18 – COMFORT one another.
I Thessalonians 5:11 – ENCOURAGE one another.
John 13:34 – LOVE one another.
If this church wants to go far, we need to travel together.
That is what I think anyway,
