I am usually up and out of the house before
Tricia starts her day. So, every morning I
write her a note and always end it by
writing, “I Love You” with a circled heart.
One day Tricia got up earlier than usual. As
we were talking, I told her that she got up so early
there would not be a note for her. She got close to me and kissed me and
said, “A kiss is better than a note.”
After COVID there are many ways to attend church. We can listen to
church on a pod cast, or we could turn on our TV or a computer and be a
part of what some people call, “The Church of the Couch.”
Sometimes there are valid reasons for not coming to church, but there is
another option… we can actually come to church!
When we attend church, we join with others in the worship of our God,
and it validates our faith. Proverbs tell us that iron sharpens iron. We
make ourselves stronger and allow others to strengthen us.
Coming to church allows us to exercise our God-given gifts…Gifts like
service, hospitality, council, and encouragement.
Your attendance at church cheers your pastor’s heart and it is one way you
partner with your pastor. And the final reason to attend church is that God
tells us to.
Hebrews 10:25 – “Do not forsake the assembling of ourselves together,
as is the manner of some, but encouraging one another, all the more as
you see the day drawing near.”
This is where Tricia’s wisdom rings true, “A kiss is better than a note.”
Why would we settle for second best by attending Church on the Couch,
when coming to church is so much better?
That is what I think.
